***** INTRODUCTION *****
It is hard to believe it is already February! Sometimes the months
pass by so quickly. Last month we had a tremendous amount of email
inquiries from all types of individuals and businesses wanting to
learn more about the ARC Network and how we can help them with their
business. It is a great feeling to report to all the people who
work so hard to make this site possible, that the network is working
and we are becoming a "community" for accident reconstruction research
and communications. Last month we also experienced our highest amount
of visitors to the site, a record 200,000 hits! We also ran
a report on search engines on the Internet and the ARC Network was
the most consistent site that showed up in the Top 10 with the key
word "accident reconstruction". As always we would like to thank
our users for the positive feedback and promotion of this site.

The ARC Network has put together a special research section detailing
the crash. In this section you will find news articles, video segments,

***** TEST YOUR SKILL *****
This is a new section to the newsletter. We present a few sample
questions that allow you to "test your skill".
- A vehicle skids 16 feet into a parked car on a roadway where
µ = 0.81. From post-collision movement you are able to determine
an impact velocity of approximately 60 FPS. What was the vehicle's
velocity at the start of the skid?
- A vehicle skids to a stop in a distance of 193 feet. The first
23 feet are on asphaltic-concrete (µ = 0.80), the following
51 feet are on a dirt surface (µ = 0.51) and the final 119 feet
are on a grass field (µ = 0.37). Determine the vehicle's velocity
at the start of the skid. Was the driver exceeding the posted
35 MPH speed limit?

***** TIP OF THE MONTH *****
This month tip deals with banner advertising in the ARC Network.
Starting in January 2000, the ARC Network has contracted with
an advertising company to handle all banner advertising on the
site. We have chosen to do this for a couple of reasons, one being
that banner advertising revenue helps to offset the costs associated
with running this site and two, the ARC Network needs to spend
its time and resources working directly with content and membership
services rather that trying to procure advertising.
You have probably already noticed that on almost every page
there is a banner advertisement that appears (rectangular in shape).
These banner ads are not associated with the ARC Network content,
they are simply ads for other companies that want you to look
at their web site, buy their product or use their service. The
ARC Network does review the banner ads that are scheduled to run
on our network. If you find any of these ads to be offending or
non-professional, please let us know and we will remove them.
In addition, there is one ad in particular that is a bit misleading.
It is a graphic that says ERROR! Search speed too slow. Choose
fix to blast off. Then you are presented with 2 buttons - FIX
or IGNORE. This is simple a different approach to try to get you
to click their banner.
REMEMBER - you do not have to click on any of the banners. The
ARC Network works the same way with or without the banners. Also
remember that the banners are ALWAYS located at the top of the

there is no ARC Network without YOU. Thank you for your time,
