NEW DELHI, Aug 2 (AFP) - Chronology of India rail disasters since 1985 following Monday's crash in eastern India which could have killed up to 500 people. Feb 23, 1985: At least 50 people were charred to death as two cars of a passenger train caught fire in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. June 13, 1985: A collision between an express and a freight train left 38 dead and 50 injured in the Taj Mahal town of Agra. March 10, 1986: About 50 killed and 200 injured when two trains collided in eastern state of Bihar. Aug 6, 1986: 52 killed as two cars of an express train plunged into a river after colliding with a stationary goods train in Bihar. July 8, 1987: The derailment of a passenger train killed 53 in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. July 8, 1988: 107 people died when a train plunged into a lake in the southern state of Kerala. April 18, 1989: 75 killed as train jumped rails in the Uttar Pradesh state. Nov 1,1989: Train derailment killed 48 in Bihar. April 16, 1990: At least 70 people burned alive when a suburban train caught fire in Bihar capital Patna. June 25, 1990: 60 die when a freight train rammed a passenger train in Bihar. Oct 10, 1990: 40 killed in a fire on a passenger train in Andhra Pradesh. Sept 5, 1992: A total of 41 people die in a two-train collision in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. July 16, 1993: 60 killed in Bihar state train tragedy. Sept 21,1993: 71 killed in two-train collision in the northern desert state of Rajasthan. May 3, 1994: Some 35 killed as express slams into a tractor in Andhra Pradesh. May 14, 1995: 52 people killed when an express train collided with a goods train. June 1, 1995: 73 killed in two accidents in West Bengal and Orissa. Aug 20, 1995: A total of 302 people die when two express trains collided in the city of Firozabad near Agra. April 18, 1996: 60 die in two-train collision in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Dec 30, 1996: Bomb blast kills 33 on a train in the far-eastern state of Assam. July 8, 1997: 33 killed in bomb blast on a passenger train in the troubled northern state of Punjab. Sept 14, 1997: 81 die when five passenger train carriages plunge into a river in Madhya Pradesh. Jan 6, 1998: 50 people die and 62 are injured after a train overshoots a signal and rams into a second which had stopped after a deer strayed onto the line in Uttar Pradesh. Nov 26, 1998: 210 killed when a speeding train rams into a derailed express in the northern state of Punjab. Aug 2, 1999: More than 200 were killed in an explosion which tore through two passenger trains at a railway station in eastern India.
