The Rock Springs Police Department is
responsible for the City of Rock Springs a town of approximately 20,000
people. The City of Rock Springs is along the I-80 corridor and is in the
southwest portion of Wyoming approximately 100 miles from the Utah border.
The department consists of 39 sworn members. The city is currently undergoing
an economic and population boom in part due to the oil field and natural
gas related industry
The Critical Accident Team (CAT ) of the Rock Springs Police
Department was initiated in 1999 and responds to all fatal accidents and
patrol Sgts have the option to activate the CAT team on any serious bodily
injury accident . All serious bodily injury accidents are reviewed by members
of CAT. The Critical Accident Team has been called on several occasions
by outside agencies to include the Wyoming Highway Patrol to assist in diagramming
of complicated accident scenes. The Team has been called to assist the county
attorneys office in crash investigations occurring in other cities in Sweetwater
County.
80 % of patrol supervisors have been trained in advanced accident
investigations. Two patrol supervisors have been formally trained in reconstruction.
We are constantly seeking patrol personnel to become members of the team
.
The team has laser measuring equipment, by Laser Technology
and diagramming software by Vision Statement. The team has computer collision
software in Win Smac and Win Crash.
