Reconstruction of fatality crashes or severe crashes that will involve criminal or civil action. Nebraska is set up with 6 troop areas. Each troop area has their own reconstructionist. Our officers respond to crashes from requests from our own agency, sheriff departments, police departments or county attorney's.

The Nebraska State Patrol began in 1937 as the Nebraska Safety Patrol to deal with the rising problem of traffic crashes in the state. Forty four officers took to the roads. Highway fatalities dropped 30 percent from the previous year. Today, approximately 200 officers patrol nearly 10,000 miles of Nebraska roads and highways.

One of the functions of a Trooper is to enforce Nebraska's traffic laws, including laws related to speeding. Nebraska statute 60-682.01 prescribes the following fines for speeding violations. It also prescribes that all fines are doubled if the speeding occurs in a "maintenance, repair, or construction zone."
