Houston County was created by an act of the General
Assembly on May 15, 1821. Since that time the Sheriff’s Office
has proudly served and protected the citizens of Houston County.
Houston County has grown to a population in excess
of 115,000 and we are responsible for
382 square miles. We are the home of Robins Air Force Base, one
of the largest employers in Georgia.
The Sheriff’s Office has grown with the population.
We are staffed with 300 deputies in
7 divisions.
The Traffic Division was formed in 1987. It was allocated
4 members and their initial responsibility was the enforcement of
the traffic laws. In 1990 the manpower was increased to 8 deputies.
In 1993 we were tasked with investigating all serious injury / fatality
collisions occurring in the county. In 2001 we were given the additional
assignment of investigating all hit and run collisions occurring
in the county.
