INTRODUCTION

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the January 2003 edition of the Accident Reconstruction Newsletter. It always feels refreshing and motivating to begin a new year. The ARC Network is very excited to start this new year. We have spent a good part of December and some of January laying the groundwork for where we are going to take the ARC Network in 2003. We are currently doing a sweep of the web site (thousands of files) and checking for broken links and information that needs to be updated.

The members only section will see a new feature added this month. We are just finishing up a new members control panel. This allows the members of the ARC Network to view the status of their membership online, anytime they want. More importantly, it allows the member to update the information located in their expert listing online - including the short biography section. This means if you change your email address, phone number, etc. all you have to do is login to your account update that field and submit your change. There is no waiting as it updates immediately.

Another area of the member's only section is being completely revamped. We are talking about the Vehicle Crush Stiffness Database. We have gathered thousands of crash tests and extracted the necessary information to calculate A and B stiffness coefficients. In addition to the necessary data we will also be providing a spec sheet of other information like VIN, engine type, crash test notes, etc. to accompany the stiffness coefficients. Now included in this database will be more rear impacts and side impacts. This new and improved online database should be available by the end of February 2003.

Another new area we are working on is an online equation database. This will work like an online calculator. Simply choose the equation you would like to use, enter the required variables and the calculator will produce the answer. We are also going to try and add a feature that lets you see the steps involved in solving the equation and produce it in report format.

As many of you already know, the ARC Network has been promoting it's special police department membership package. Currently over 40% of the state police agencies have signed up and are using the program. To further promote this great membership package, the ARC Network has teamed up with some of the best-of-class accident reconstruction and investigation businesses and put together a package detailing how these "tools" can make your job as a traffic police officer safer and easier. These companies include CadZone, Panasonic, Easy Street Draw, MapScenes and Laser Technology, Inc (LTI). These packages are being sent to all police departments in 19 states. In a few months we will send the package to the remaining 31 states. So be on the lookout for this package from the ARC Network. When you receive your package be sure to take a good look at everything inside including the FREE demo software. If you would like a package mailed to your department, please email your request to the ARC Network - arc@accidentreconstruction.com

The ARC Network has also added a few new sections to this monthly newsletter. One of them being "Tools of the Trade". Each month we will provide tips and techniques to better use your accident reconstruction products. Another new section is the "Test Your Skill". We will be working directly with the top accident reconstruction and investigation schools to provide sample equations and answers. Both of these sections are listed to the left in the Newsletter Navigation Menu.

The ARC Network is able to operate based on membership dues and advertisers. Please help support The ARC Network by becoming a member. As a member you have full access to the Member's Only section that hosts a vehicle specs database, crush stiffness database, crash test clips, technical papers and more. As a member you will also be placed in the Expert Directory. The ARC Network web site receives over 800,000 hits each month and currently has over 300 members. If you haven't joined the ARC yet, please visit our membership section.

Thank you again for supporting the ARC Network. Please use the navigation menu to the left for the rest of the newsletter....
