FEBRUARY 2005 - Accident Reconstruction Newsletter

This month's newsletter focuses on Biomechanics and Trauma.

What's New with the ARC Network:

When it rains it pours! Last month we reported we needed to upgrade our servers to handle the amount of visitors and members to our web site. Well, in February, we had to upgrade all our online databases to SQL from Microsoft Access. We were receiving too many requests in the Expert Directory for the Access database to handle and it was stalling. We have completed all the updates and the databases are "flying" now. You will probably notice the data is populating before the page even loads!

The ARC Network is still in the process of automating our membership registration and membership renewal process. We have already contracted for an electronic ecommerce merchant account and are now working on re-writing the database to tie in with an online credit card acceptance program. Hopefully, this new process will be much more convenient and easier for ARC Network members and potential members. We are hoping to launch the new automated membership renewal process and new member sign-up in April 2005.

The ARC Network is now up and running in Kirkland, Washington
Last month the ARC Network relocated to Kirkland, WA. The move went very smooth. The web site was never down and we were only away from email for about one week; however, we are still playing catch-up with all the work that needs to be completed.

  1. New Blog for Accident Reconstruction: The ARC Network is working on developing the first "Blog" for accident reconstruction. What is a Blog? In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Blogs have reshaped the web, impacted politics, shaken up journalism, and enabled millions of people to have a voice and connect with others. It takes discussion boards ten steps further.

A blog gives you your own voice on the web. It's a place to collect and share things that you find interesting [like accident reconstruction], whether it's your political commentary, a personal diary, or links to web sites you want to remember. Many people use a blog just to organize their own thoughts, while others command influential, worldwide audiences of thousands. Professional and amateur journalists use blogs to publish breaking news, while personal journalers reveal inner thoughts. Whatever you have to say, blogs can help you say it.

The blogging experience is about not only putting your thoughts on the web, but hearing back from and connecting with other like-minded folks. Blogger Comments let readers of your site from all over the world give feedback on what you share on your blog. You can choose whether or not you want to allow comments on a post-by-post basis (and you can delete anything you don't like). Blogs give your group its own space on the web for sharing news, links, and ideas.
