SELMA — Delaware County sheriff's deputies have few clues about the cause of a Monday night crash that claimed the life of a Selma-area man.
Tim D. Perry, 50, 7201 Windsor Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, at Pittenger Road and Smithfield Pike. Authorities said Perry's 2006 Silverado pickup truck struck a tree.
A crash call from Onstar was reported to 911 emergency dispatch around 9:20 p.m. at the site and county sheriff’s deputies found the truck, with the driver later identified as Perry inside.
Perry was not wearing a seat belt, according to county sheriff’s Lt. Arlan Johnson, who heads the sheriff’s accident reconstruction team.
“He was headed in town to get a pizza and did not come back,“ said Johnson, who said there was no apparent explanation for why Perry did not stop at the intersection.
Perry was southbound on Pittenger when he drove through the intersection, hit a guard rail and crashed into a tree.
Scott Hahn, Delaware County deputy coroner, said the driver died from blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy was performed Monday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital and county sheriff’s investigators also were looking at whether alcohol might have been a factor.
