Flexpoint Preparing for U.S. Vehicles to Require Pedestrian
Safety Standards
DRAPER, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2005--Flexpoint
Sensor Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:FLXT - News) today announced they expect the
new pedestrian safety standards recently mandated in Europe and Japan are
likely to be required for U.S. vehicles, and industry experts agree.
"Pedestrian safety is a major concern among automotive
manufacturers as they are now required to meet standards for every new vehicle
they sell in Europe," stated CEO of Flexpoint, Clark Mower. "This
is already requiring major auto makers to implement design changes that
we believe are quickly coming to North America. In fact, we are currently
working in conjunction with auto makers and Tier One suppliers on our pedestrian
impact system for the North American car market."
Industry experts also agree. In a recent article in AutoWeek,
Richard Truett interviewed Ford Motor Company's Chief Engineer of Safety
for North America, Steve Kozak, regarding pedestrian safety for U.S. vehicles.
Mr. Kozak was asked if he thought he will eventually have to design vehicles
that take pedestrian safety into account and replied, "Absolutely.
I believe pedestrian safety standards are heading this way. As we continue
to what I call "drain the swamp" of all the pressing issues here
in the United States, the agenda will then fill with the pedestrian discussion."
If Mr. Kozak is correct, this would expand the potential market
for Flexpoint's Pedestrian Impact Detection System. The system places a
series of Bend Sensors® in the front bumper of a vehicle and triggers
a safety response based upon the manufacturers' requirements. Flexpoint's
system can differentiate between a human leg and other structures in 1 to
4 milliseconds.
Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. has developed and patented
the Bend Sensor® technology. The Bend Sensor is a technological breakthrough
that offers a superior solution for applications that require accurate measurement
and sensing of deflection, acceleration and range of motion. Global market
opportunities include automotive, medical, industrial controls, government,
health and fitness, security, computer, aerospace, transportation and consumer
products.
