Chrysler recalls nearly 102,000 Grand Cherokees
DETROIT, Sept 16 (Reuters) - The Chrysler
arm of Germany's DaimlerChrysler (DCX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) (DCXGn.DE:
Quote, Profile, Research) is recalling nearly 102,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees
from the 2005 model year because of a problem that may trigger fires under
the hood, U.S. federal safety regulators said on Friday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the
fire risk stemmed from increased transmission operating temperatures and
the potential purging of transmission fluid into the engine compartment.
A total of 101,925 Grand Cherokees, equipped with 3.7 liter
engines and NAG1 automatic transmissions, are affected by the recall, the
agency said.
