Hyundai recalls 240,000 cars in U.S.
DETROIT, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Hyundai
Motor Co. Ltd. (005380.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) is recalling 240,000
Elantra sedans in the United States because of a problem with the occupant
classification system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
Cars involved in the recall are from the 2004 and 2005 model
years, NHTSA said on its Web site on Thursday.
The occupant classification system installed in the front
passenger seat of the vehicle may mistakenly identify a child seat as an
adult passenger, NHTSA said.
This may occur if the child seat is installed after an adult
has been seated, and could result in the right front air bag or side-impact
air bag being deployed in a crash, according to NHTSA.
