Toyota recalls 978,000 vehicles on U.S. market
DETROIT, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor
Corp. (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research) on Wednesday said it was recalling
978,000 pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles sold on the U.S. market
because a steering relay rod on the vehicles may fracture, causing a loss
of control.
Vehicles affected by the recall, from the 1989-1996 model
years, include power-steering equipped 4Runner sport utility vehicles and
compact pickups and T-100 pickups, Toyota said.
Toyota spokesman Sam Butto said no accidents or injuries had
been reported due to the potentially faulty steering component.
