Measurement Specialties Announces New Accelerometer for Auto Safety Crash Test Applications

FAIRFIELD, N.J., March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Measurement Specialties, Inc. (Amex: MSS - News), a designer and manufacturer of sensors and sensor-based consumer products, announced today that its new Model 64 piezoresistive accelerometer is now available for dynamic measurement professionals requiring accurate, reliable data for auto safety crash test applications.

The Model 64 is the first new product developed by MSI's recently formed Vibration Business Unit based in Aliso Viejo, CA. "This small, rugged accelerometer features MSI's second generation piezoresistive MEMS sensor element," noted Anthony Chu, Director, Vibration Business Unit. The Model 64 offers a full scale range up to 2000 gs, DC response and temperature compensation from 0 - 50 degrees C. End-users will particularly appreciate the durable, damage-resistant integral cable, variable voltage excitation range (2-10 VDC) with ratiometric output and low standard zero offset < +/- 25 mV.

Available off-the-shelf, the Model 64 design features a full bridge configuration and internal gas damping that provides outstanding shock survivability and flat frequency response. The footprint of this accelerometer meets SAE J211 specifications for anthropomorphic dummy instrumentation.

The Model 64 accelerometer rounds out MSI Sensors' already outstanding product lineup for auto safety testing applications. Additional models include:

* EGCS-S425 fluid damped accelerometer for auto safety crash testing.
* Model 1201 accelerometer with overload stops for testing in the "crush"
zone of vehicles or for road applications.
* Model 3035 accelerometer with high shock resistance for "crush" zone
testing.

Information about these exciting products can be obtained by contacting Bob Arkell, Vibration Products Manager at 949-716-7324 or via email at bob.arkell@msisensors.com.
