Yamaha recalls motorcycles in U.S. to fix seats
DETROIT, June 9 (Reuters) - For the
second time this year Yamaha Motor Co. (7272.T: Quote, Profile, Research)
is recalling motorcycles sold in the United States because their passenger
seats can fall off the rear fender, federal safety regulators said on Thursday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the
recall covered about 46,000 Yamaha motorcycles, the world's second-largest
motorcycle company.
The bikes affected, from the 1998-2005 model years, were identified
in an advisory on NHTSA's Web site (http://www.nhtsa.com)
as the Yamaha XVS11 and XVS65.
The same models were included in a larger U.S. recall of 190,000
Yamaha built motorcycles announced in March.
NHTSA said the latest recall was "to provide an improved
remedy" to the passenger seat defect "with components of a different
type that will not allow the seat to fall off."
