I-Sim Introduces PatrolSim: A Compact, High-Performance Driving Simulator For the Law Enforcement and Government Marketplace
SALT LAKE CITY, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- I-SimŽ Corporation, a leading developer and manufacturer of
driving-simulation equipment, today announced the formal launch of its new PatrolSim(TM) Driving Simulator to the law
enforcement and government marketplace. The high-performance simulator complements I-Sim's existing line of driving
simulators and targets the lower price segment of the driving simulator market.
The PatrolSim Driving Simulator utilizes I-Sim's state-of-the-art simulation technology, providing a highly realistic and immersive
training environment. I-Sim driving simulator systems provide more consistent and repeatable training without putting people or
equipment at risk, resulting in better-trained drivers. The open seat driving station incorporates I-Sim's vehicle dynamics, preset
and user-programmable traffic scenarios, and sophisticated road surface software to ensure a realistic experience for drivers of
all abilities.
Drivers in I-Sim simulators can experience rural, highway, and city roads in geo-specific environments, which duplicate actual
local streets and intersections in a virtual version of their own city or town. Various weather conditions including fog, rain, and
snow in either night or daylight situations can also be preprogrammed or selected real-time while a simulation is running.
The PatrolSim driver station is controlled by a detached Operator Console (OpCon) run on a Windows-based personal
computer, providing real-time, interactive control of the driving situation. The PatrolSim simulator system is capable of
networking together up to 10 simulators simultaneously in order to train officers and drivers working in joint tactical maneuvers.
``The introduction of the PatrolSim reinforces I-Sim's reputation for innovation and high-performance simulators,'' said Reginald
Welles, president and CEO of I-Sim. ``We took the features from our more advanced driving simulators and placed them into
a smaller, more compact version to provide budget-constrained customers with a first-rate driving simulator alternative.''
Approximately 7 feet long, 7 feet wide and 6 feet high, the PatrolSim simulator is a much smaller version of I-Sim's high-end
driving simulators, which are as large as 35 feet long and 45 feet wide. From the driver's seat, one can comfortably look over
the fully functional dash and steering wheel at the ``windshield,'' which is simulated by an eye-level, wide aspect ratio (16:9)
three-monitor display. The 200-degree field of view (slewable to 270 degrees) also incorporates rear-view mirrors offering
drivers a more realistic driving experience. Quantity one pricing for the PatrolSim Driving Simulator begins at $90,000.
``The compact size, ease of use, and operating simplicity make the PatrolSim Driving Simulator a high-performance training
system at a very affordable price point,'' Welles said. ``The comprehensive PatrolSim simulator system was designed to help
improve driver judgment and decision-making skills during normal driving activities and in emergency response situations.''
With a full product line, I-Sim simulators may be used to teach a wide range of skills including introductory driver training,
rules-of-the-road familiarity and correct response behavior, basic traffic negotiation, defensive driving techniques, advanced
vehicle handling and advanced driving decision making. I-Sim simulators are currently utilized nationwide to provide law
enforcement, emergency agencies, the military, trucking companies, and driver training schools with realistic driving experiences
without ever risking lives or equipment. The simulators reduce overall training costs, including depreciation, insurance, licenses,
fuel, tires and maintenance, and better utilize instructor time.
