JOHNSON CITY — A Johnson City man died at a hospital late Tuesday after wrecking his motorcycle near John Exum Parkway.
Johnson City police said Erik A. Fair, 48, 1008 N. Boone St., was driving a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound in the right lane of John Exum trying to negotiate a curve about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The crash report stated Fair was speeding and lost control of the bike.
The bike left the right side of the road, and Fair came off the bike.
Fair and the bike slid more than 100 feet into a guardrail. The bike continued sliding and crashed through a large wooden sign. It came to rest after sliding over and down an embankment.
Police said Fair died at Johnson City Medical Center a short time later due to a severe head and internal injuries.
Police think alcohol was a factor in the crash. The investigation into the crash is continuing by the Johnson City Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.
This was the second fatal crash in Johnson City this year, both of which involved motorcycles.
