Volvo says recalls 42,000 trucks from U.S. market
STOCKHOLM, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Sweden's Volvo (VOLVb.ST:
Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday that it had decided to recall 42,000
trucks of its Volvo VN and VHD model in the U.S. market due to a possible
fire risk from pipes leaking hot gases into the engine.
The company said in a statement it had discovered that the inlet
pipes on the exhaust gas recirculation system may crack or break. It said
that if the pipes were not repaired or replaced then components in the engine
compartments may be exposed to hot exhaust gases.
"This might lead to a fire. Volvo has become aware
of a number of cases of heat damage. In two cases these have led to a fire,
though without any personal injury," it added.
It said it would inspect and replace any damaged parts and install
a heat shield on all trucks.
