GM Recalls Some 1996-98 Cars
DETROIT -(Dow
Jones)- General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - News) is recalling about
824,000 cars to repair power steering systems after eight injuries
were reported.
No deaths occurred,
and a company spokesman said the injuries consist of cuts and bruises.
General Motors, which doesn't discuss the cost of recalls, isn't
aware of any lawsuit being filed.
In a press release
Monday, the automaker said it is recalling some cars built between
Jan. 1, 1996 and Oct. 31, 1997, such as the 1996 Buick Regal, 1997
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, 1997-98 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Chevrolet
Lumina, Monte Carlo, Malibu, and 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue cars.
General Motors
is also recalling some 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass
Supreme, and 1997-98 Buick Regal cars. The company plans to repair
a lower pinion bearing condition in the power steering gear assembly.
About 750,000
of the cars are in the U.S. and nearly 55,000 are in Canada. The
remaining vehicles are in Mexico and other countries.
