| GM Recalls 200,000 Buicks for Headlamps
DETROIT (Reuters)
- General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - News) is recalling nearly 200,000
of its Buick cars to equip them with new low beam headlamp bulbs,
U.S. federal safety regulators said on Thursday.
The National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall -- of 199,793
Buick Century and Regal sedans from the 1999 model year -- was necessary
because reduced illumination from their headlights could prevent
drivers from reading overhead road signs when driving at night.
GM has been
hit with more recalls this year than in all of 2003. Standard &
Poor's auto analyst Scott Sprinzen cited the disproportionately
high number of recalls in a conference call on Wednesday, saying
it was one of the factors weighing on profits at the world's largest
automaker.
