Toyota recalls 154,000 Highlander SUVs
DETROIT, Aug 6 (Reuters)
- Toyota Motor Corp. (Tokyo:7203.T - News) has recalled 154,593 of its
2001 and 2002 model year Highlander sport utility vehicles due to a
fuel-vapor nozzle which could leak during a front-end collision.
Toyota, Japan's
largest automaker, discovered the problem nozzle during crash tests,
said spokesman John Hanson. He said the automaker was unaware of any
other instances where the nozzles leaked.
To fix the problem,
dealers will rotate clamps on the nozzle about 90 degrees so they don't
hit the underside of the vehicle body during a crash.
"All we're
really doing is we are repositioning that nozzle. It's about a 20 minute
or 30 minute fix. There are no parts that need to be replaced,"
Hanson said.
Kia Motors Corp.
(KSE:00270.KS - News) will recall 25,000 of its 1998 Sephia compact
cars because of an electrical problem which could prevent the hazard
and turning lights from working, the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration said on Tuesday.
Kia dealers will
replace the hazard switch, the NHTSA said. Kia officials were not immediately
available to comment.
