US says Honda recalling about 200,000 ATVs

WASHINGTON, April 14 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co. Ltd.'s(7267.T: Quote, Profile, Research) American unit will recall about 200,000 of its 2004-2005 model FourTrax All-Terrain Vehicles for a steering problem, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said on Thursday.

The steering rods can separate, causing the driver to lose control. Honda has received 27 reports of steering rod separation but no reports of injuries, the safety commission said in a statement.

The ATVs were sold by Honda motorcycle dealers nationwide from August 2003 through February 2005 for between $3,600 and $8,000, the CPSC said.

Repairs will be done free of charge. Consumers are advised they can contact Honda at (866) 784-1870 or on the Web at www.powersports.honda.com.
