Heavy Vehicle Crash Reconstruction
May 14-18, 2012
Cost of Event: 875
Evanston, Illinois, USA

Description:
Heavy Vehicle Crash Reconstruction includes four hours of field testing to demonstrate various braking and acceleration characteristics of heavy vehicles and to allow students the chance to analyze and apply the collected data. Case studies are also used to show how various analytic techniques can be applied to real world crashes. Students review each case study and discuss how it relates to an actual situation. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop computers for use during class.

Major Crash Assistance Team
CDR Technician & Analysis
May 14-18, 2012
Instructor: J. Manges
Cost of Event: $500.00
Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA

Description:

CDR Technician 1 & 2 Certification will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012.

Following the Tech 1 & 2 certification will be the CDR Analysis Application Course.

CDR Analysis and Applications Course will be held Tuesday - Friday, May 15 - 18, 2012.

This four day (32 hour) course will provide the Collision Reconstructionist who has completed a CDR System Operators or equivalent CDR “technician” class the necessary background to understand the function of the Event Data Recorder information present in some electronic control modules on most late model production vehicles available from, but not limited to, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors vehicles.

Airbag system deployment decision making will be discussed as it relates to the information recorded within the airbag control modules (ACM) of the CDR system supported vehicles.  Each generation of modules for the supported vehicle families will be covered including line by line analysis of most parameters utilizing CDR reports from actual crashes and staged crash tests where relevant. The students will be provided copies of CDR reports used in the class for later reference.

In addition to the analysis of the individual line items, the application of the data to the crash at hand will be discussed including: delta-v and closing speed analysis, principle direction of force (PDOF), comparison of pre-crash parameters including vehicle speed, throttle position, engine speed and brake application, methods of comparing internally recorded information as well as information from external sources and how they handshake for comparison, using CDR data in a situational appropriate reconstruction will be covered.

Individual course sections include:
• Terms and Conventions found in relation to CDR/EDR field
• Airbag deployment decision-making basics
• Crash Sensing and critical timelines
• Crash Pulse recording methodologies currently used  Delta-V recording variations
• Pre-crash data sources
• Chrysler supported vehicle reports and recorded data from first coverage up to the most recent supported vehicles
• Ford supported vehicle reports including ACM and PCM (powertrain control modules) data elements from beginning of Ford CDR coverage up to the latest ACM which now contain pre-crash data
• Ford PCM data timing relating impact to “time 0” and restraint deployment signal (RDS) reception
• General Motors CDR reports by generation including ROS (rollover sensor) data, Engineering Translation reports including the latest model year 2010/2011 ACM data and variants
• Toyota CDR Reports for both Generation 1 and 2 EDR types. This represents the coverage up to version 4.3 of the software and will be updated as coverage is added
• Accuracy and Reliability as displayed through results of controlled testing from various sources
• Case studies and in class assignments to tie CDR report analysis to crash investigation
• Other supported OE’s as coverage is expanded over the next year.
• All registered attendees will be provided with a link to download a volume of sample CDR System files for all supported system types. Additional material will be made available on older systems no longer covered in the main class.
• A class “DropBox (see www.dropbox.com) will be setup and access provided to all attendees for up to date information post-class.

This class is days 2 through 5 of the complete CDR System Operation, Analysis and Applications Series and is available to attend as part of a 5-day complete series, or as an individual 4-day class for those requiring only training in the Analysis and Application of CDR data.

Completion of the CDR System Operators or equivalent course is a recommended pre-requisite. (The CDR Technician class as offered by Collision Safety Institute since 2008 or one of their Technician Class trainers is an acceptable pre-requisite, as is the IPTM Methodologies class.)

Tuition cost: $500.00 USD

Pedestrian Vehicle Crash Reconstruction
May 21-23, 2012
Cost of Event: 575
Evanston, Illinois, USA

Description:
In Pedestrian Vehicle Crash Reconstruction, students learn the mathematical equations for kinematics of bodies and what formulas are appropriate for which scenario. By using the skills learned in this course to conduct more detailed crash analyses of vehicle-pedestrian collisions, students significantly enhance their skills. As with other reconstruction classes, extensive use will be made of real world case studies.

CDR Data Analyst
May 21-25, 2012
Evanston, Illinois, USA

Description:
CDR Data Analyst training offers the crash reconstructionist who has successfully completed CDR Technician Level 1 and CDR Technician Level 2 further insight into the function of the automobile Event Data Recorder (EDR) function or subcomponent. The history and evolution of the Event Data Recorder (EDR) is discussed as are expanded interpretation skills, thus allowing the application of a Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) System report to a situationally complete crash reconstruction.
