Speed Analysis
With the proper evidence and approach, the Reconstruction Expert can determine
vehicle speed. Methods used for speed determination include:
- Computer assisted
analysis including conservation of linear momentum
- EDCRASH, CRASHEX,
SLAM capabilities
- Complex commercial
motor vehicle computations based on air brake efficiency
- Calculations from
airborne vehicle movement, such as flips, vaults and falls
Analysis of vehicle
damage can also provide important information relating to energy and speed.

Impact Location
and Angle Analysis
Evaluation of physical evidence on the roadway and the vehicles in most
cases result in determination of vehicle position at impact.
Examination of
Vehicle Systems or Specific Parts
- Examination of
lamps to determine on/off at impact, or if a lamp was burned out prior
to the crash
- Examination of
air or hydraulic brake systems to identify defects or causes of failure
- Tires can be examined
for evidence related to pre-impact, impact, or post-impact failure
- Other areas of
Accident Reconstruction include:
- Speedometer/Tachometer
Analysis
- Time and Distance
Studies
- Sight Distance
Studies
- Driver Identification
The Geodimeter Robotic Survey
System
Traffic Safety Consultants, Inc. now owns Geodimeter Robotic Survey Instruments,
a state-of-the-art forensic mapping system. This technology represents
a significant milestone in our field, enabling one person to process an
entire crash scene.

The Geodimeter
System provides outstanding efficiency and accuracy in the data collection
process and results in high quality technical drawings and court exhibits.
Additional advantages offered by this system include storage capacity
of up to 10,000 data points and teh ability to electronically transmit
data directly from the field to our office technicians. Precise full-color
technical drawings can be immediately provided to the analyst.
Our forensic
maps of the crash scene can also be used as court exhibits or as the basis
for a full animation resulting in savings to the client.
The
Reverse Projection Technique in Forensic Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry, simply stated, is the science of extracting measurements
from photographs. With our forensic photogrammetry resources, TSCI is
capable of establishing distance relationships of evidence in photographs
when no measurements exist, original evidence has been moved or degraded,
or the scene has been otherwise altered.
Portable,
Dual-Circuit Air Brake Testing Device
Use of a self-contained air source allows our analyst to test each brake
of a commercial motor vehicle at a controlled pressure, without assistance.
This technique offers significant savings and improved accuracy for the
client compared to reliance on outside sources.
